The origin of Kreepy Deluxe is quite the macabre tale of suspicion, engine grease, and the foul stench of turpentine.
Years ago, too many to count now, I was a young designer destined for an average life of corporate company identification and power point layouts. I was grudgingly dragging myself through a degree in multimedia design when things started changing. I was given a chance to work as an apprentice at a local tattoo shop. During this time at the tattoo shop I went to the annual car show in the area and that was the beginning of the end.
In the beginning I started to notice patches of time I didn’t remember and a thick greasy palmade in my hair. Over time things got worse until one Monday I woke up late for work, no memory of the entire weekend, reeking of turpentine and covered in 1Shot Sign enamel. The combination of lack of sleep, toxic lead paint, and copious amounts of flying bull energy drink must have divided me in two. This new side was dragging me out to car shows on the weekends and up till the wee hours of the morning working on custom cars and hotrods. My day job was suffering and I was too tired to sustain a life of my own. No matter how hard I tried I was no match for this “other” me. The inevitable happened… mutiny. In my weakened state I was overcome and cast into the deep dark recess that spawned my demise, the transformation is complete Kreepy Deluxe had taken over.
From the day I let Kreepy take the wheel, I/Kreepy have trained and dedicated life to perfecting the Kustom Lowbrow Kulture. Pinstriping, Hot Rods, Custom Cars, Music, Beautiful Girls, and anything Americana have been the focus of study and influence for Kreepy’s art. Pulling strongest from the post war late 40s through the 50s tattoo and automotive design, Kreepy attempts to bring that into the modern age by adding a fun energy with his expressive lines and bold colors.
The most attractive part of the Lowbrow Kustom Kulture is the originality and verity of kustomization; everyone wants their stuff to be “one of a kind.” A kustom piece, no matter what it is a phone, a purse, a piece of jewelry, or clothing, has to stand out and be original.
